iPhoto for Mac

iPhoto can help you be more creative with your photos than you thought possible. It gives you an easy way to organize, edit and create special projects that you can share with friends, family or anyone in your social networks.

These classes are designed to teach the basics and take you beyond them in a fun and creative way.

IMPORTING AND ORGANIZING YOUR PHOTOS USING IPHOTO

The class starts by showing you how to take a large, unorganized library of photos and getting them sorted, organized and cleaned up. You’ll work with managing Events and then with creating Albums, Album Folders and Smart Albums. I’ll show you how to add keywords and to search for photos in your library. You’ll also learn how to change the name and other information on a photo or group of photos, how to identify important information like resolution, size, f/stop and ISO settings. I’ll demonstrate the facial recognition technology built into iPhoto with Faces and show you how you can view and change location GPS data with Places (requires iPhoto 9 or 11).

You’ll also learn about different back up strategies and how to create new iPhoto Libraries to better manage the photographs you take.

EDITING YOUR PHOTOS IN IPHOTO (with a discussion of other options)

iPhoto 102 - iPhoto Editing

Learn the basics of iPhoto photo editing: red-eye removal, cropping & proportions, enhance and the retouch tools. Get creative with the Effects pallet and take your photo editing further by learning the ins and outs of the Adjust pallet. Make a good photo better. You’ll learn how to duplicate photos to create several versions you might like to use for different photo projects and how to revert to the original if you’re unhappy with your edits. You’ll also learn how to calculate the maximum ideal print size based on the resolution of your pictures and learn why file size has little to do with quality.

Students may bring in their own laptops to experiment with their personal iPhoto libraries but I do recommend backing up before class.

IPHOTO PRINT PROJECTS AND KEEPSAKES

iPhoto 103 - iPhoto Print Projects

iPhoto supports many printing projects beyond printing photos. Learn how to print beautiful photo books, calendars and cards. Print them with your printer or order online. Use the Preview App to add interest to your projects. There will be a short demo and discussions of 3rd party applications that go beyond iPhoto.

CREATING SLIDESHOWS and MOVIES

iPhoto 104 - iPhoto Slideshows and sharing projects

Class will start with demonstration of simple ways to do slideshows on your Mac, iPad and iPhone. Then you’ll learn how to use iPhoto to create slideshows that include transitions effects, music and titles and then share them over the internet or create a DVD. To take your slide shows to the next level, I recommend Photo to Movie or Fotomagico. I will talk about and demonstrate these applications and why you might prefer these for your slideshow creation projects.

THE MANY WAYS TO SHARE YOUR PHOTOS - NEW!

iPhoto 105 - Sharing your photos is easier in iPhoto!

The latest version of iPhoto and OS X (10.9 - Mavericks) easily allows you to access and share your photos: eMail, Messages, Flickr, Facebook, Twitter and iCloud.

This class class will show you how to share your photos and how to create shared photostreams from your Mac using iPhoto or from your iPad or iPhone. Once you create a shared photostream, see how you and others can "Like" and add comments to your pictures.

ANNOUNCMENT

Apple has announced that iPhoto will be discontinued and no longer supported this year.

iPhoto will be replaced with the all new Photos app beginning with the release of OSX 10.10.3.

By all accounts, this will be a big improvement over iPhoto and for Yosemite users and users of iOS 8 on iPhones and iPads, a migration that will be highly recommended.

I will continue to offer iPhoto support and training for clients on pre Yosemite and legacy systems for the time being.
